The Lost Cubans is based on the true story of three Cubans who are living in limbo between Sweden and Cuba, without passport or other identification documents. The film is about their everyday unpredictable life. About their innovative and often humorous ways to find jobs- jobs nine floors up at the icy rooftops of Stockholm.

The film is also a great love story between a Cuban man and Swedish woman. A woman who is planning for a future together. Although is a dark theme, the film is filled with laughter. To manage to live in a constant state of waiting and uncertainty requires to have fun along the way.

The Cubans have since many years their families here. But neither that or the aspect that they can not return alive to Cuba seems to be reasons strong enough to get permisson to stay in Sweden. But is there another another way to freedom?

Many Cubans seeking asylum in Sweden can not be deported to their home country after rejection because Cuba refuses nationals who have been outside the country for more than 24 months. But what do the different processes do to the asylum seekers Cubans who do not receive a residence permit after years of waiting for a decision? The Cuban asylum applicants are like pawns in some sort of game between Sweden and Cuba. Pawns with no human or legal rights. We want to tell their own raw story about hope, rejection, and endless waiting.  And we also want to tell a story about endless love agaist all possible odds.

OTHER PROJECT WE WORK ON.

Great ambitions with ”The Lost Cubans”

Considering the results of the recent Swedish election, it is obvious that we one no longer can ignore the fact that migration and integration are two important issues. That people can get jobs here and become a part of society is obviously easier said than done. How the problems surrounding these issues should be resolved, we have unfortunately no answer to right now. But with The Lost Cubans we want to show what it's like to live trapped between two worlds.

The ”Lost Cubans” is filmed in autumn 2014 and should be realised spring 2015. The movie already has a place at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Dominican Film Festival. The vision is of course that it will be accepted in even more film festivals.

Francesco Valentino, the producer and screenwriter has great experience in film production. His latest film ”What’s Left of Life” was recently shown at the Toronto Film Festival, where it received great awards. Francesco Valentino is also, working together with Tarantino Production the producer of  ”The Dominican”.

In Toronto, they are already asking for his next film, and that will be ”The Lost Cubans”.
